Rockband Roundup – 6/3/08 DLC Reviewed - Disturbed & Jimmy Buffett

Rockband Roundup – 6/3/08 DLC Reviewed

Another week passes by and Harmonix has given us more DLC as promised. Whether or not you like the music they release every week. You do have to applaud them for at least keeping their promise of weekly DLC at moderate prices. Anyways, enough fanboy pandering to Harmonix! We’ve got content to review!

This week’s review is Disturbed Jimmy Buffett. Ah, yes the new name for Parrot heads from now on. No, no, I am just kidding. Yes, this week we have Disturbed and Jimmy Buffett. This week’s content has something for good ole dad and his teenage son. Maybe buy the Jimmy Buffett pack as an early father’s day present? Perhaps, I can help you decide!

Disturbed - 240 MS Points ($3.00) Pack / 80 MS Points ($0.99) Individually

Truthfully I never heard of nor listened to this band prior to the announcement they were going to be in Rockband. That doesn’t mean I’m not open to new music but I need a venue that allows me to experience new music. After downloading and playing it. I can tell you that I really enjoyed these songs.

I do believe that this might be the first time the bass was harder for me than the guitar parts. I played both bass and guitar on hard. I was able to pass them all but with higher scores on guitar. The one song that I had the most trouble with which required some practice was “Perfect Insanity” since it had a short but quite challenging solo.

All of the songs had interesting but challenging note charts for all three instruments while the vocalists might have a small break in difficulty here. All three songs have solos on guitar that were hard but not impossible. Bass made good use of chord changes mixed with hammer-ons/pull-offs. Drum note charts were fun and allowed this gimped drummer to actually do well.

Final Verdict: Good song pack and with a great limited price. Absolutely get it unless you can’t stand Disturbed.

Indestructible

Band: 6/9 Guitar: 7/9 Drums: 7/9 Vocals: 3/9 Bass: 7/9

Inside the Fire

Band: 6/9 Guitar: 7/9 Drums: 7/9 Vocals: 4/9 Bass: 7/9

Perfect Insanity

Band: 6/9 Guitar: 8/9 Drums: 7/9 Vocals: 3/9 Bass: 8/9

Jimmy Buffett – 480 MS Points ($6.00) Pack / 160 MS Points ($2.00) individually

Parrot heads rejoice! Your Rockband ship has finally come in. Most people have heard at least heard one or two Buffett songs in their lifetime. You might actually be able to get your parents to play some Rockband. I find all of these songs catchy and pleasant to the ear. However, the drums are by far the most “challenging” of this song pack but not by much beyond the difficulty of the guitar and bass note charts.

However, if you’re an adult age twenty-one and over and drinking then you won’t have to worry about failing out on the guitar and bass. That’s a positive factor for this song pack. Apparently, all of the songs were recorded again specifically for Rockband. “Volcano” reminded me too much of Super Mario Brothers game music. This song pack is good for fans, parties, and getting a high spot on leaderboards.

Final Verdict: Six dollars is a little steep. I feel only those who are big Buffett fans or those who would like to diversify their song list should purchase this. You have the power… Use it!

Margaritaville

Band: 2/9 Guitar: 3/9 Drums: 4/9 Vocals: 1/9 Bass: 3/9

Cheeseburger in Paradise

Band: 2/9 Guitar: 2/9 Drums: 4/9 Vocals: 2/9 Bass: 2/9

Volcano

Band: 3/9 Guitar: 4/9 Drums: 4/9 Vocals: 1/9 Bass: 4/9

Rockband DLC - 4-15-08 - Opinions

Posted in Blog, Geek, Music, Video Games on April 15th, 2008

Another Tuesday means more Rockband coming way to Xbox 360 users. Our PS3 friends will have to wait until Thursday. They will be able because they have been without access to Rockband DLC for the last few weeks.

In addition, there was addition today, a Motley Crue single debuted not on radio, nor television but as Rockband DLC. I believe it was called “Saints of Los Angeles”. It was only 80 MS points ($0.99) for a limited time.

Overall I am quite happy with this week’s DLC. Call Me is a great and classic Blondie song. Message in a Bottle is a very good Police song and Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd rocks. All of them were masters and great songs in their own right. As for their challenge on hard guitar, they are pretty easy. I might have to try them on this upcoming weekend sometime. I don’t sing and I am only a medium player on drums. Bass is almost easy even on Expert.

If you have the MS points, or the money then I suggest purchasing this for your next gen system.

I was thinking of hosting the first Rockband Friday on March 14th, 2008. Let me know what you think of this? You can email me at cephiros.matsuri@gmail.com

New Year.. Finally a New Post

Posted in Blog, Geek, Music, Video Games on January 8th, 2008

You’re probably wondering where I’ve been, huh? Any readers I may have had in the past probably no longer read this blog. I’ve been busy with various things. I’ve been clean from World of Warcraft for 7 months so far! I purchased a 42″ LCD HDTV and Xbox 360 in November and I’ve been playing it tons since I’ve purchased it. Mainly playing Rockband which kicks the ass of Guitar Hero series. I’ve also been playing some first person shooters for the first time in over 10 years with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 3/4.

My relationship with Chandelle is going very well. We’ve been together for almost 3 months. She has moved in with me since pretty much Thanksgiving. Last weekend was a very happy time for me. I gave her a promise ring. Some people may think we’re going fast but I’ve found the one for me.

What else, I’ve did 50-55 hour weeks at work for nearly two months. I’ll have 3 credit accounts paid off fully once I do my taxes. I’m doing really well with my job. I was finally hired to be a full time associate.  So, Not much I’ve been doing, working, playing video games, and hanging with my baby and we survived the holidays. Whew!

See you in the next two months… naw just kidding, I should post before that time frame. :)

Pop Music Is Not A Crime

Posted in Blog, Life, Music, Weekend on August 27th, 2007

Time for another weekend update from your good old friend, Alex or Cephiros… whatever you wanna call me. Before we get started on updating you on my weekend activities. There is a weight update.

8/25/07 - 232.5 pounds - lost 1.5 pounds - total lost: 19.5 in slightly under 2 months.

Friday Evening - Kicked it old school style with two people from the Damn Portlanders Livejournal Community. That would be with [Freyis - ] and [Katlyn - ]. We went to Wunderland and played some Dance Dance Revolution and DMX and some other games as well. After that, we had dinner at a really and not too expensive Chinese place. I think it was around 29th and Belmont. I’m not completely sure. We talked, had fun, really glad I hung out with them.

Saturday - Seumas and I cleaned up the apartment a little bit. It still needs some work but looking better than before. Went to the mall, hung out with Aaron, Ben, Seumas. We also went to Fry’s Electronics and checked out the wares but I didn’t anything. Aaron couldn’t buy Invasion from Space on DVD I believe it was. The reason being because it had a street date of 9/4/07 or something of that sort but there was a copy on the floor.

Went to Bangkok Palace and had some really good Thai food that tasted like the stuff when I was really in Thailand. After that, it was time go to the Freezepop show. The first opening act, Operation Mission was really really good and he kicked the synths from his gameboy. Bringing back the sounds of 1989. PGE was okay, some of their stuff was good but overall, it was kinda bland. Michele Wylen, was cute, pretty good but it sucked as she was starting her show, since there was tons of feedback.

However, Freezepop was fucking great. I loved all the songs they played. Boys on Film, Brainpower, Pop Music Is Not A Crime, Final Countdown, Less Talk More Rokk and more. I was dancing and grooving to the sounds of great synth pop. After the show, were meeting people, selling band stuff and signing Guitar Hero controllers.

The only thing I did not like about the show was this group of annoying fucks who got really drunk. They started being abnormally loud, hitting machines. A guy and girl from the group were really drunk and they started making out and dry humping to Freezepop which was kinda funny.

Sunday - Hung out with Becky. Watched and got hooked on some Battlestar Galatical and I really like it that I moved it up to the number 1 spot in my Netflix queue. Took the our dog, Aeris to the Mt. Tabor. We had a blast, had some dinner at Burgerville. Did my laundry. Basically, a pretty lazy Sunday after all.

That’s all for now.

I’m so fucking awesome, and I’ll tell you why.

I bought some tickets for August 25th. for the Freezepop show at Ground Kontrol. Really, that’s all I wanted post for now. I’ll be at the +21 showing at 9pm.

If you read this blog post, Chicks will have sex with you.

Posted in Blog, Craigslist, Music on August 12th, 2007

The X if you do this, chicks will have sex with you seems to be a running joke between two sets of my friends now. So the past few days have been quite interesting to stay the least. I really like this whole social life thing. It is much better to get out and about and not sit at your computer all the time.

So, Thursday, I hang out with one of Summer’s friends, AJ, it was good hanging out with him. We talked, had some dinner and we hung out at Ground Kontrol for a little bit.

Friday, I hung out with Christa, we talked, had dinner at Burgerville. Played some games on my DS. Bitched about Customers and Cell phone companies. Watched some Upright Citizen’s Brigade. Went to Cocktails and Dreams, a strip bar and met the always cool Jasmine. Well! Just let me tell you this. I got a little too drunk I think. I mean I didn’t like blackout drunk but I got really drunk. I had 3 AMFs ! So, I finally spilled the beans, that I liked her, but I didn’t do anything about it cause I valued you our friendship and I didn’t think she thought I was attractive and such. However, that is neither here or there, everything is cool. I met Marcus, and he’s a really cool guy. So, I had to make a little note, if the only way I can tell a girl I like her is after 2-3 AMFs then that’s going to be a very expensive habit! <- bad alcoholic joke.

Saturday, I did have a date but because of issues and miscommunication.. the plans fell through but the person apologized and we have it rescheduled for Wednesday and we’re still going to Sushi Takahashi!

Diet update - Down to 235.5 pounds, that’s a lost of 16.5 pounds in 1.5 months. It is going strong and I’m doing well and I think this is making me more confident and as I told my friend Amy, I think everyone is a work in progress.

I think it has been decided that Craigslist really sucks for dating. I have made many replies to ads but gotten no emails back from them. My own ad didn’t do so well cause the M4W area was flooded with new ads and got bumped to the second page in no time.

Blog Posts are Overrated… Aren’t they?

Posted in Blog, Music, Politics, Video Games, Website on August 2nd, 2007

So, I’m sorry I’ve haven’t been posting on my blog. Believe it or not I’ve been pretty busy with sorta of a social life. How about we rewind and such and I’ll tell you the full story, trust me… of course you trust me.

Tuesday, July 24th - Hung out with Eileen (Bob’s GF), Bob, and Josh. Played some Guitar Hero II, watched some bad movie and watched some Venture Bros and such. I stayed the night there.

Wednesday, July 25th - Hung out with all three of them again until Josh had work. We had some booze in our empty Viso bottles and got some juice to mix it up. Walking around Downtown Portland and we were getting pretty wasted. Went back to the Lloyd Center and Eileen got some lunch while Bob and I rocked the arrow smash of ITG. I did well for being under the influence. Got some more Vodka. Got wasted and made some tentative plans with my friend Christa.

Thursday, July 26th - Fucking lazy this day. Watched some TV, cleaned up a little in the apartment and got my haircut to its new short style.

Friday, July 27th - Had testing at this temp agency. It appears I can do 9200 KPH on the 10 key. Passed all of my tests and such. Later that day, Christa and I met up. Got some food at Subway. Back to her apt, hung out. Went to this strip club/bar and watched some cute strippers. The best one being Jasmine, our new stripper friend. We talked to her for.. I dunno about 1/2 hour. Walked up to Blockbuster, Got Leon the professional and Life is Beautiful. Got some pizza and beer at the Safeway. Watched the movies, had some pizza, drank some beer, and a good time was had. Discovered I suck at Dirge of Cerberus.  We talked and such.. pretty much sums up that day.

Saturday, July 28th - Christa and I headed over to the 24 hour Hotcake House. I never been there before but always heard about it and of course as she stated, it’s a hot spot of Portland. Headed to the Avalon Wunderland and played some video games. All kinds, DDR, Dance Manix, pinball, shooters, etc. After that, we parted ways at 39th and Powell.  It was a fun weekend and I’m glad I have a new friend that is pretty cool.

Tuesday, July 31st - Job interview in North Portland. Never been there before and I got lost. I finally made it and at the time I thought the interview went very well. Later that day I was hanging out with Bob, then eventually Josh and Eileen.. oh and one of her friends who I name I seem to have forgotten. It was discovered that I got the job I interviewed for earlier that day. So beers was purchased and merryment ensued. I got pretty smashed but did not wake up with a hangover which is good.

Wednesday, August 1st -  Hung out with the friends, around downtown and such. Bob and Eileen drove me home so I could let them borrow my Season 3 & 4 of Queers as Folk. It is a really good series. That’s about it, Played some Odin Sphere and advanced the story a little bit more.

Thursday, August 2nd - Hung out with Summer for late morning to a little bit in the afternoon. At lunch at a Chinese place that was pretty good.  Walked to the Goodwill and looked around there for a bit and then head to to a Starbucks and hung out. Met and talked with this Vet from the Iraq and such. Then we head out. She gets a thumbs up for digging my new style and looking cute. Yes, I said it, don’t hit me! :(

So, tomorrow is when I start my new job, 8:30am. Working until 3pm I think, but not sure. I have no concrete plans for the weekend but I’ll see what I can do! Replied to a couple Craigslist ads for women seeking men. Been nearly a year since Becky and I broke up. I’m feeling it is time to least gain new friends, casually date, but of course I’m not ready nor want to jump head first into a long term relationship.  Haven’t gotten any replies yet but I was thinking about making my own post too after I get some new pictures taken.

My friend Amy seems to think I need to smile more often. So overall, quality of life has gone up. Diet is working out great. Losing weight and such. More energy and more confidence and a fuck you attitude if people don’t like who I am. I’m sorry for all those LJ users since I have a Wordpress plugin posts to my LJ but I don’t remember how to cut.

I defeated Jaws, Among Other things.

Posted in Blog, Music, Politics, Video Games on May 5th, 2007

So, today I had trouble getting up because I wasn’t feeling well but I needed to head to PCC Sylvania because I needed to do paperwork for my General Assistant position. I’ll be working 10 hours a week at 8.30 per hour. Not the best paying job out there but worth the experience. I could not find my Social Security card before I went.

Also, after turning in what I could, I went to the Pioneer Square mall and was talking to some T-mobile dealers and one of them was really nice but the other one was pressuring me into a sale and I did not like it.  So, instead of trying to get me go with T-mobile, they have pushed me away from them forever. So, if you’re in the bottom floor the Pioneer Square Mall in Portland, OR, nearby the Apple Store on the way to the food court, do not get your T-mobile service from them. Boycott them to hell and back.

Went to the Lloyd Center and played some In The Groove Doubles, Some of the my own songs I’ve loaded up on my mere 32 megabyte flash drive. I did pretty well and while talking to somewhere, I spotted Seumas and Ben while they were to get some Jamba Juice before movie night at Taxus’ house.

So I get home, organize some of the drawers in my room and found my Social Security Card and I will drop that by the Student Government office on Tuesday.  I am pretty glad I got this job even if doesn’t pay well since its not a fucking call center job.

Logged on to World of Warcraft after I got home because I did not know I was confirmed for Karazhan raid today and I was out running errands among other things. I finished editing a video of the Romulo & Julianne. Chatted a bit with my friend Sylja and she called me because we discovered her firewall was blocking the images for some reason. She has moved down south and I wish the best for her. I worry for her cause she is alot like me and hasn’t gotten hurt in the past.

So, the Domestic Partnerships bill has passed the Oregon House and Senate and should be signed into law and become effective on January 1st, 2008. That’s my bit quick news of Oregon politics.

I played some NES roms tonight and I played and beat Jaws. I fail to see how collecting sea shells, starfish, killing jellyfish and stingrays lead to the ultimate goal of defeating Jaws.  However, I did defeat the mother fucker and the world is safe once more. More info about my life changes in the next entry since I know this was is way too long.
